As the coronavirus continues to spread globally, Novartis is responding to the crisis by taking measures to protect the health and wellbeing of our patients and associates, support those on the front lines fighting the pandemic, and help further the science around and potential treatments for COVID-19.
Novartis has been active in several cross-industry research initiatives, including the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator, coordinated by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Welcome, and MasterCard, as well as a COVID-19 directed partnership organized by the Innovative Medicines Initiative. The company also teamed up with R&D leaders throughout the industry as part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Foundation for NIH Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines partnership initiative.
Other efforts include:
Making available to our associates and their families a range of learning resources as well as childcare assistance and other tools and resources to help them stay healthy and connected with family, friends and colleagues during this challenging time.
Establishing the US COVID-19 Community Response Fund to support local initiatives and communities in the US impacted by the outbreak.
Working with US and global medical experts to make up-to-date information available to healthcare professionals. This includes developing a series of educational videos and podcasts to share medical expert knowledge on COVID-19 specific topics.
Contributing use of our gene therapy manufacturing expertise in a program by the Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital for a novel vaccine using an adeno-associated virus vector for clinical trials.
